While maybe not a throw away shot, it does leave something to be desired. It looks a bit underexposed, but the focus isn't bad. The lighting is too far left to show the birds wing and tail markings, but that could probably be corrected in Photoshop using the highlights and shadows sliders. I cropped it and bumped the exposure up a bit here, hope you don't mind, just a quick 10 second adjust is all but it shows the image does have some potential.
I like the sky the color it is and I like the branches. I also tend to like birds as part of an overall composition. Here's my take.

I like the close crops of the image and the way the bird is perfectly framed by the branches in those crops. Makes for a very nice composition 8-)

I agree Wendy.
Here is my take on it. There are some nice leading line potential and Golden Angles repeatedly framing the bird. Eyes are is focus so there are plenty of options.
A Little Tighter
Here is a really tight crop, making it a portrait of the bird.
My rendition. You have some good ones to look at.

I was about to do this same crop, maybe a wee bit tighter. This looks great with the original sky when you look at the full view.

There was quite of bit of noise in the photo. Anyway, I replaced the background with a sky and cropped it.

It has potential. This is what I might do with it in PP.
PP in Aperture
nI downloaded the increased - moved to where the right branch was gone, the branch he was setting on was in corner and bottom edge was just below the tail. Felt this crop did better justice and composition improved.

You have a lot of examples from the previous posts. If you don't like the original, then trash it, otherwise, PP it. Here's my try at it. 8x12 crop with room to crop 8x10 or just print 4x6.
