Thanks to all who responded to my "need a printer" thread. I have pretty much decided to get the Epson 7010 with pigment inks from Hotzone.
Just in case, has anybody out there had bad experiences with this printer? Bad experiences with pigment inks from Hotzone?
Conversely, does anybody think this is the best thing since sliced bread?
Thanks in advance, youse guys are a great help.
Stonecherub,
DON'T use anything but Epson inks the minute your printer clogs and it will, you then send it to Epson or whoever the maker of the printer you purchase sees an inkbrand other than their own, they may repair it once but the next timeit happens they will either charge you or refuse to repair. My advice, based on expierience, use the inks made by your printer.

I guess i don't understand. The ink cartridge can clog but that's not a printer malfunction. The CISS system has refillable reservoirs rather than cartridges and the system is manufactured by a third party, not Epson. If I had a clog, I would send the ink system to them, not Epson and I would not send the printer anywhere unless it failed to feed the paper or track the print heads.
The print head is where your clog will happen. The ink system will be ok but the print head will clog. Epson's inks are made to a higher standard which is the reason they don't as a rule have clogging isues.

Are you saying that in the Epson printer the print head is independent of the ink supply? In the HP932 I'm replacing, the print head is part of the cartridge, there's a row of electrical contacts on each cartridge to carry the signal from printer driver to ink.
correct and you don't replace printheads yourself, that is a service job.
Thanks, maybe this isn't such a good idea after all.
Dan, Ihave used Epson printers of all sizes for at least 15 years and have every confidence in their quality. All I needed was one instance of printhead clogging because of trying to save $ to be convinced. The other thing is with Epson inks I know how my color will be everytime. That is an issue with off-brand inks.
One of the criticisms of this printer in the Amazon ratings was its thirst for ink. What has your experience been?
Have Michael(hotzone) install the CISS for you, before he send it. The one I got does a great job on all paper. rder you refill paper from him you will not go wrong.
I also ordered ink from inkgrabber $32. all 3 colors as a back up. I have great service from Epson printers and Hotzone. Best thing about Epson is you can call them and they will help you get the job done. I had over 30 printers in the last 3 years all makes #1 pick is Epson then HP. The best one ever is Epson 1400 they don;t make any more had 3. IF you need help just ask I'll do what I can.
I would say lest then 5 cent a print. I print mosty 8x10 I think you cn see the ink I have used for about 50 color prints.
billybob (or should I call you Mr. 40?)
What business do you have that uses all those printers? Just curious. It looks like the ink supply sits somewhere outside of the printer. Is this a problem?
With any printer you should print a full color print ever 2 to 3 days this stop clogs in your printers. You should run the head cleaner every week are two.
I'm Billy Bob and 72 years old, I do this for fun.
Five years ago a woman in NM tryed to sell me a on the road photography business got me thinking about takeing pictures at events. I'm not in that business it called Novelty Photo Booth. I have over $10,000 in it because I try something then try something else, I don't like it I sell it on ebay.
I set up at events and fairs on week ends, sell 8x10s for $15. each make $50. to $1,500 for a three day week end.
My set up is 20x20 tent with 2 PCs and 4 printers and 250 costumes. Now you know why I go through printers.
I have 2 people help me, I pay 25% of the take after the pay out (25% to the 2 helpers 25% to me 25% to the business).
I doing this to see if I can pass some on to people so they can make a living at something they like. It can be done for around $1,000. This summer I'm going to make up a video on how to do this. If you like to see some of the work I've do go to
www.NoveltyPHOTObooth.com As you can see I use green screen and digital backdrops, it save time. What ever you do have fun at it and good luck.
I been buying from hotzone for over 3 years over 8 printers. I have the 7010 a great printer. Michael got it in just for me. Hes make me CISS systems for other printers I have. He goes the extra mile for his costumers.
