I have just purchased Lightroom 4 I have the crash course dvd and I have surfed the internet on several tutorials but I cant seem to find what I am looking for. All tell you how to do things but dont tell you how to undo what has been done. I have imported pics to LR, selected and unselected photos. My problem is when I go to make slide show all photos show up in the preview, selected and not. I have tried to delete the unselected but will not allow me to do so. I have tried to make new collections of photos selected but then they could not be imported, some would and some would not. If there is a tutorial that will cover what to do and what not to do or how to change things you dont want please let me know. I would like to start over but I seem to be making things more mixed up. Is there any hope. I am second guessing my purchase.

I don't quit follow what you are trying to do. Once you import the file into your catalog it remains in your files unless you delete the file--find under Photo. Are you talking about removing a photo from a smart collection only? Once you have your smart collection set you should just be able to go to slideshow and pick the smart collection you have created.
In some ways I think Lightroom is like iPhoto in that in iPhoto you can creat albums, add and remove pictures without changing where you originally put your photos.
I like Scott Kelby's books and videos. The problem for most people is the cost of the paid tutorials which cover much more than Lightroom. Don't get too frustrated. Once you get through this beginning stage you'll wonder why you ever thought it was so hard.
On the bottom right side there is a reset button.
Have you been to youtube or adobe tv lots of tutorials.
Go to creativelive.com. They have a tutorial on LR4 now.....
In the develop module, there is a panel on the left side under the presets, titled "history". It shows every PP move you make in processing a photo. You can go back and click on any one of those moves, and it will take you back to that point and remove the moves you made after that.
The reset button on the right side takes removes all and takes you back to the original photo.

These tutorials are great . They are free untill Jan. 31 then the price is very reasonable.
In the Library, select the photos you want to delete by highlighting them, and hit your delete key. It will ask if you want to delete or remove. As someone stated before, you can create a "Smart Collection" of your favorites to kick out the unwanted photos from that collection, but I never use this feature as I do not use Lightroom to catalogue my photos....I just edit them there and them export to folders on my PC. Maybe when I learn more about LR I will enjoy that feature.....good luck and don't give up on your purchase as it's fantastic software!
Lightroom does not modify, or alter in any way, the original image. Rather, it makes "masks", which are like overlays, that produce the image as you want it to look.
In doing that, Lightroom creates "pointers" that keep track of where the original photo is located. And, it keeps track of what images are included in the collection. The collection is your group of photos that you like and will want for your slideshow.
Remember... the original image remains unchanged and in its original file location. So, you never lose or alter the image.
Hope that helps...

Starting at 10am Pacific: Ben Wilmore on creativelive.com
http://www.creativelive.com/live2You can purchase his video for usually under $100 if purchased within 4 hours of the seminar ending and usually about $150 after that. I think he is doing a 3 or 4 day seminar now. I have one he did on CS6 that was a 3 day workshop. He is awesome. Also check the creativelive schedule and look for Lesa Snider. She also very good at Adobe products.

I think you can TAG the photos for the slideshow with a keyword like "SLIDESHOW" or a rating number 1 to 5. All of these is done in Library module, not on the DEVELOP module. Then select your photos by keyword or rating # and start your SLIDESHOW. I have never done this but I think it seems reasonable, knowing how LR works. You have to know how to go to "select by" keyword, rating, etc...

A Smart collection of all photos with keyword SLIDESHOW or Rating 5 for example, is the way to go. You can delete or add photos to this collection by removing or adding the criteria or tag on the photos.
