Hi, I am fairly new to photography, and anxious to learn. This forum is very interesting to me. I have a Rebel xsi with the kit lens. I also own a canon 70-300 4-5.6is and a Tamron 200-500. I am considering buying a canon 15-85 is to replace my kit lens. Any comments on this lens or how I could improve on my selection of lens.

Welcome, Scubado; Judging from your "handle", I was expecting to see some underwater pics, LOL. When I bought my Canon 60D, the gal at the camera store suggested the 15-85 lens instead of the kit lens. I followed her suggestion and have been very happy with the lens; sharp pics at any focal length, fast focus, and great build quality. Glad I did this instead of the kit lens. I'll see if I can find some pics to post from this lens. If you get the lens and want a hood for it, let me know; I've got an extra brand new one I'll let you have for cheap. I think they are $30 or more at most camera stores.

Hi Awagner,
Thanks for the info. I do have a few underwater pics, but they are pretty old. I haven't dived for about 5 years. (Doctors advice). So I hung up my wetsuit, but still have my Nikonos 5 with 3 lens and closeup attachments. Would love to sell it, but unfortunately you can't give away an underwater film camera. So I just hang it for old times sake. Thanks for your comments on the 15-85 lens. If I get it I will talk to you for the lens hood. Is it a Canon hood or one that screws onto the lens or filter threads?

Hi Awagner, br Thanks for the info. I do have a f... (show quote)

Scubado,

Yeh, it's been about 8 years since I've been wet; maybe I'll get back at it some day. I too, have an old Sea & Sea film camera, flash, lenses, etc... that is really worth nothing.
The hood for the 15-85 lens is the Canon hood; (don't remember the exact no.) specifically for that lens; I ordered one from Amazon, they got the order messed up, I fixed it with them and for some reason, they sent two hoods, and of course charged me for two also, so instead of going thru all the hassle of sending it back, I just kept it, figuring i'd either use it or find someone that could. So..it's here if you want it; I'm thinking something like $20 including shipping ought to cover it. Let me know if you need it.

Hi Awagner,
Just purchased the lens, so could use the hood. Send me an address, and I will send you a check for $30.00 if that sounds o.k. with you.
