My aging HP 932c is making occasional unpleasant noises and it will only accept photo paper one sheet at a time. It is on its third (fourth, maybe) computer (as defined by motherboard as i build them myself) and Costco has stopped carrying my ink cartridges.
Clearly, I need a new printer and would like suggestions. I haven't room or money for an Epson with 9 ink colors. I would like a printer:
1. as reliable as this old HP (may not be possible, today)
2. that can produce acceptable photo prints (not Epson quality but OK)
3. with some way to monitor the ink level in the cartridges.
Other whistles and bells are a plus but those are my requirements. What are YOU printing with and how do you like it?

Hello, I am new to the sight and new to digital photography. I have been printing my own pictures though. I have 2 kodak all in one printers and they do a great job for me. The ink is very affordable compared to HP and epson. You can monitor your ink on the small lcd screen on the printer as well as veiw photo's. Just an idea. You should check them out.

I highly recommend the Canon PIXMA MG series for quality photographic and general printing needs.
Been my experience that Epson makes the best printers but also heavy ink usage. Curious, why do you want to do your own printing? Can get very good and excellent prints made elsewhere at a fraction of the cost of doing it yourself. I use to do my own printing but gave it up because of the cost.
Love my Kodak printer. Excellent quality photos and all other print jobs. Ink very reasonable and lasts a long time. Will continue using it as long as possible.
If Kodak printers become unavailable in the future I will be looking towards the Epson Artisan series, maybe the Workforce models, based on quality of print and other features. Based on past experience in offices, plus what others have had, I will not buy HP printers for scanning or photo printing.
I have used both Canon and Epson printers. Epson printers do not seem to last very long, and use ink at a very fast rate. In my opinion, Canon makes the best printer for home use. I currently use the Canon Pro9000 MarkII. It's an excellent printer, and I highly recommend it.

I second that.
I have an EPSON Workforce 520. I bought it at FRY's a large electronics discount store ( nationwide). It was factory re-conditioned; cost less than $150. Black plus 3 colors. Prints, copies, scans and Fax. Its new and its o.k. Not quite up to my old one...but o.k. ALYN

I too use the Canon Pro9000 Mark II after switching from HP. The Pro 9000 is probably larger than what it sounds like you want, but as mentioned earlier check out the Canon Pixma MG series. What I found with HP is that they don't seem to support their older stuff with up to date drivers like Canon does.
I had this one for about a week black and 3 color. Prints up to 13x19 does a great job.
http://www.hotzone360.com/wo70buwipiin.htmlAll my printer have CISS systems that way I know where my ink is. The link below he will make up a CISS system for about any printer for around $50. His made 5 up for me.
Paper has a lot to do with you prints. I was useing a paper that cost me 10 cent sheet then I bought Red River's semple pack i see how good there paper is, all I can say is WOW.
I use Canon Pro9500 Mark II at home and I am delighted with the results
It all depends where your prints are going to wind up.
If your prints are for personal use get a Canon.
For clients use an EPSON WorkForce 1100 for a good start in professional printing. It requires (2) Black Ink Carts and (1) ea Yellow, Cyan and Magenta. Can be had for a good price and produces top quality prints up tp 13x19.
