I have just purchased a new computer which has Windows 8. I have been trying to load my existing Elements 10 but it simply refuses to run. There are 3 discs in the pack and I have been using Disc 1(this is what I did when initially installing on Windows XP).I notice on the box that software up to Windows 7 is mentioned.I would have thought there is a method of installing Elements 10.Can anyone assist?

Running into same problem with my backup software.

Not compatible with Windows 8 on my laptop.

Check with manufacturer for possible update or it's worthless.

Thanks Sarge69 but after posting my query I decided to go back to the supplier because I am paying for a service where queries are supposed to be answered. This service is availble in the UK and anyway they confirmed that they would help with setting up the computer. Result..Elements 10, 2nd. printer and monitor calibration all installed in approx 45mins.So it can be done.Hope your problem is resolved but you will have to go back to Adobe

Not as easy. I had to buy an upgrade for $29.99. Seems each operating system has to be redone to work and they charge for the upgrade. But it works and happy to backup system and files again.

Hi Sarge..I do not know how Adobe operate in different parts of the world but I did not have to pay anything. I gathered this was done freely but only because I was a subscriber to this firms back up service. I pay UK £6.99 a month ( equates to roughly $11).No mention was made about purchasing an update.I did Google this and found a lot of anti Abobe comments especially their customer service.Anyway Sarge hope you have it up and running

Sorry, I was referring to my backup program "Acronis" which for Windows 8 Pro needed to be reprogrammed to work. To get the upgraded program was $29.99. I guess that's not bad for 2 years of working perfect with Windows 7 Pro.

All my Adobe products are great and updated. I mainly use Adobe Acrobat X Pro for conversions of pdf to docs which I can then adjust and re-save as pdf after.

I do not have Windows 8 and won't until they release at least Service Pack 1. Too buggy (normal Microsoft new releases).

That said, you might try right clicking on your icon for Elements, go to properties and left click. In the pop up properties window, you should have a tab for 'Compatibility' and when the new view pops up, tick the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" check box. A list of operating systems should then be available by using the little down arrow inside the box. Again, I do not have Win 8, but you should be able to select Windows 7 (or Vista 7) to take the software backwards in compatibility. It would be worth a try, instead of sitting around waiting for Adobe to change things.

This is why I hate it when Microsoft comes out with a new operating system. I always have to be concerned with my current software and having to pay more to upgrade that as well.

I believe that Windows 8 is geared more towards a touch screen computer and has no advantage over Windows 7 for a normal screen computer.

I fought it for over 25 years, since we left DOS for Windows. Microsoft will tell you that their software is backward compatible, but the WORLD will tell you different. That is why M$ has the 'Compatibility' function. It is called CYA. Need I explain?

Your belief is correct from everything that I still hear coming out of the industry. It is a step forward in technology, but at what cost to the everyday user that has 'tried and true' software on Win 7 or Vista? The next move is to the 'Cloud' and from what I am hearing, that is not far down the road. Then, you will RENT your software and it will not be stored on your system at all. With my years in the industry, that scares the hell out of me, primarily because businesses and banks will buy into it. If we ever have a 'cloudburst' the Mayan's could be right, just delayed.

I upgraded to Win 8 and had similar problems. Elements and other programs would not run and I kept getting "Not Responding".
Therefore I reverted to Win 7 Pro so I could install and run Win 7 XP mode on a virtual machine. Now I am able to run AutoCAD and other older programs which are sill viable.

Apparently Win 8 requires many add ons just to run many programs. Documentation is lacking with Win 8.

Apple or Macintosh is about the same. I don't upgrade until a good 6 months to 1 year have passed. Then the bugs are worked out and the app manufacturing companies have had time to catch up also.

Totally agree, both systems create the same issues when going to new OS systems.

I have elements 10 and recently went from Vista to Windows 8. You need to deactivate PSE under the help menu in PSE 10 before you uninstall it from our old computer then just reinstall on the new one as before.

Thanks everyone, but being a simple kind of chap most of this is a bit beyond me..anyone remember the comparatively halcyon days of film photography...I never, ever had a hang up about anything. As mentioned in a later dispatch to Sarge69 I took the offending computer (new) back to the supplier and they did it for me.
