You have mooses in Texas???
Nice shot. I didn't realise sightings were so rare. I suppose the same applies to good photographs of them.
Please post the original of your moose image.
Sorry. Re-read the article. New England makes a bit more sense. I've never thought of mooses as a desert animal (it conjured up some strange mental images).

The only thing in Texas are itty bitty deer. Part of the year I spend on the east coast, esp. New Hampshire. I have quite a few moose pics....the second was taken last summer.
Hey, I'd love to have my own moose. What do they eat?
Well....moose means "twig eater". They like plants, especially the ones that grow on the bottom of the ponds and lakes. They love bogs. I have seen people feed them alfalfa. The first moose I shot (a baby)was being fed by a family because it's mother had been killed on the road.
Congratulations, texaseve! I haven't been back to Maine for a couple of years, but always try to go moose "hunting" when I'm there.
thanks Linda! I was so surprised.

My moose got in here.
Very nice! I once saw a moose walking through the woods in NH. That's a funny-looking, big animal.

My guess is they're not quite so challenging to photograph. That would explain the trips to New England etc :) .
Are moose dangerous? They're big, but they look kind of docile - almost sleepy. Could you approach them in the wild?

You'll have to move out of that second floor appartment first :) .

Let me put it this way, they wouldn't make pleasant house pets. Those antlers aren't there just for hunters to spot. Driving through NH, you'll see signs warning you to brake for moose because if you hit one, it could be your last time behind the wheel. They're big, heavy, tough, and not afraid to defend their territory or their young.
They do tend to be somewhat docile, but if one gets annoyed with you, watch out!
I go back and forth to New England because we plan to retire there...have a place in NH and my mother was raised in MA. I love to photograph moose because they are so goofy looking!
Jerry is correct. You really don't want to approach a moose to closely in the woods, especially mother with baby or during rut. I do get closer than I should...most photographers do take a little risk, don't they? You can read body language...If hair is starting to stand up on the neck, get back. I am most afraid of black bear...very healthy respect.
There are not many exciting animals in Texas, except the rattlesnake....that will get your attention. We do have cute armadillos and horned toads, however, you have to live out in the country to see those.
