You could try this, Dean:

http://digital-photography-school.com/finding-your-cameras-current-shutter-actuations

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/post/42339443

if you Google for "Shutter Activations Canon" you'll get a whole bunch more hits.

I don't use a Canon, so am not able to tell you how good or bad these sites and procedures are.

I have been informed in another post, that camerashuttercount does not work with all Canons-- even those listed. I believe it was a 7D that would not work

On my Canons the photos all have numbers and I have set the menu so that I have continuous numbering. I presume that both the T2i and the 7D both have the same function. When you down load your latest pictures , just look at the number of the last picture taken. That should tell you how many photos you have taken, or am I missing something here?

Look up File numbering in you manual then look at the appropriate menu as see how you are set up.

Hope that helps. Happy New Year everyone.

They are talking about shutter actuations. The point is that most numbering sequences may start over (how many digits does your record?) or be reset (either intentionally or not). The link(s) supplied allow you to check the actual number of shutter actuations. If you were looking to by a used/refurbished body-- you would want to check this number. The process is simple: take a photo, go to site, and download.

They claim it will work on my 1000D (XS) and 500D (T1i). It doesn't.

They want money for the shutter count, but they will set your camera clock to match your PC for free. That is nice.

Thew EOS Info program http://www.astrojargon.net/EOSInfo.aspx Will read the XS, but not the T1i (and likely newer).

If you are running Linux for an Operating System, install gPhoto (even if you don't use Gnome). Remove the SD card (to avoid "Camera in use" errors). Plug the camera in, go out to a bash prompt and type:
gphoto2 --get-config /main/status/shuttercounter

Here is my results First shot was the T1i, second was the XS:
mikey@linux-tf6v:~> gphoto2 --get-config /main/status/shuttercounter
Label: Shutter Counter
Type: TEXT
Current: 9392
mikey@linux-tf6v:~> gphoto2 --get-config /main/status/shuttercounter
Label: Shutter Counter
Type: TEXT
Current: 26729

The EOS Info program agreed with the gphoto2 answer. Two corroborating witnesses on different machines running different OS's can't be wrong. (And I didn't have to pay anybody). ;)

Easiest way is to look at the image number. If you did not change the factory setting, it started at IMG_001 and goes to IMG_9999, then resets itself. You can manually keep track. I hope this helps. Gary

Take a picture the upload it to this site and it will tell the number of shutter activations http://www.camerashuttercount.com/
for actual photos taken no but what counts is the number of time the shutter was pushed

There is a free download called P.I.E. Picture Information Extractor. You open the program, open a photo in the program and it will give you a complete read-out of the exif data including the number of shutter actuations.

Since you own a Canon, it might not be possible. For some reason, Canon doesn't want owners to know how many pictures they've taken. Try the links below.

Shutter Count
*http://www.camerashuttercount.com/
*http://regex.info/exif.cgi
*Get Irfanview (free) and also get the plug-ins for it. Start the program, open a photo, click on Image > Information > Exif info.
*Get ExifInfo - also free. Unzip and get the icon onto the Desktop. Find a photo and drag it onto the icon. A window will open with loads of info. Look down the list for Shutter Count (or whatever they call it).
*http://www.cambridgeincolour.com):For Canon users, try this: http://www.astrojargon.net
*For Nikon users check this: http://drchung.new21.net/previewextractor/

*Canon try http://www.ideiki.com/astro/ Look toward the bottom of the page, and you will see that it shows the shutter count for Canons.

HI have a Rebel t3i and love it, In lower left corner it should show some numbers in parenthesis that either go up or down these are the photos take and depending on if you shoot in RAW or JPG too how many you have. It does explain it in you manual. Not being rude but it does explain it better than I do. Some people on here have no cooth or bedside manners.
