Thought I would try this at the Casting Crowns concert. I am quite impressed with what this lens can do even in a low lit concert with no flash!

I'm convinced. Looks like I'm going to be using my 100MM a little more.

The Canon 100mm f/2.8 non-L lens is extremely sharp and doesn't get nearly the press it probably deserves. I should use mine more often. As Val noted, it has excellent low light capability. One of these days I'm just going to stick it on the camera and not take it off for a few days just to learn how to use it better. Thanks for reminding me!
I agree it is a very nice lens for a lot of things including macro.
I'm considering this lens without IS. Do you think that's important? If used for portrait or macro and tripod would be used.

To me, the IS was worth it. Remember, whenever you use an IS lens with a tripod, always turn the IS OFF. I am sure you knew that. I rarely use a tripod. If you are one of those who uses a tripod a lot, an IS lens wouldn't make much sense.
