How Many Pic's Should I Take
It's been mentioned many times before when photographing events i.e. ( Butterfly World) as to how many shots should I take. Well, I went there a few months ago and took over 100 photos. The best one I took was the last one I took existing the park.
How many memory cards can you carry at one time? If I keep 10% I am a happy camper! If I have 1 that is printable I feel like I came back a winner! Shoot til yer finger hurts! The butterfly is a bit dark but you can bring that out with a little PS!
This to me is a winner!
Looks like it was worth the other 99. Really Nice photo........
A Billion gazillion fafillion and three. Love the boldness of the flower, I agree about the butterfly, but yes, that is an easy fix. way to go!
Short answer - if you can take one and that is good enough to make you smile, I would say that was plenty. If you took a thousand and you did not like any of them the problem may not be the number but your technique or lack of. There may be a balance of putting yourself in a postion and have the correct skills to take enough to have a good variety to pick from - a hard number I could not say. I will add though that I often think of the one I missed after I am no longer on site - and best of all they are cheap. Very nice picture.
notnoBuddha is on the right track. There is no certain number.
I dont think 100 shots is all that many for what you were doing.
To rattle off shots for the sake of saying that you shot so many pics is of no use. As a matter of fact it could be detrimental. I think that each exposure should be thought out. The more photos that you take with a specific objective in mind then the more you will learn what does and does not work. If you work like this then the more you shoot you will start seeing all of the things that can hurt a photo. This will automatically lead one to shoot plenty even if they think that they are duplicating shots.
As far as a percentage of good photos to bad, well that depends on what level of good that you are expecting. Usually as I sift through a batch of photos I can find flaws with almost all of them. Anyone else looking at them usually will say that they are all so good.
Oh yes, Mike, the flower and butterfly is a good shot.
Beautiful photo! That's is the wonder of digital photography. You no longer have to wait and pay for developing like in the 'good old days'. There is no such thing as too many photos unless you are limited by your memory card or batteries. I took 600 in a 5 hour visit to an aquarium the other day. I kept about 50. Only a hand full are good enough to submit on a forum but I kept them for the memories. I can erase the rest and have more room for more photos on that card. Go for it!! :-)
Great color and you can fix the comp and the brighten it in a few seconds.
Take as many as you can. The great thing about using a digital camera, is you should never be concerned with running out of film.
Excellent shot. Keep shooting until you finger drops off, then use the other hand!
I basically agree with the others, but with film we usually also had a budget, which required discipline. jfk159 summed it up with others liking many more than we do. I used to feel good if one of 24 exposures was satisfactory. That didn't mean my clients weren't satisfied. Digital has released us from the expense, but I still am trying to overcome the discipline.
Don't ever limit yourself. I can take upwards of 400 images in a VERY short time. You never know what surprises, good or bad, are going to be on your memory card when you get home. if you limit yourself, you could miss the once in a lifetime shot!
