I was impressed with your result. WHAT PROGRAM DID YOU USE??? Cheers, Andy

I used color strokes to desaturate and then it allows selective re-colouring. Played around with Aktiv Refocus plugin in PSE11 and used the sharpen tools in PSE11. Tend to work intuitively, bad habit I guess, so can't remember all of the steps in detail!!

Felt like trying to convert Blancmange to Jelly LOL!!!

p.s. posted reply without your quote first time!!

And this photo from the '70's surfaced. I've done a bit in PSE10, but don't know what else can be done. I'd like to remove that rust-colored tint and maybe sharpen a bit. Anyone willing to lend a hand?

I've found that if you have a crap pic, you'll always have one.

Ha, nice remark. I would think it would be obvious that the OP likes this photo for it's sentimental value and not it's aesthetics. Then again, some folks seem to enjoy writing nasty comments despite the obvious. 8-)

Hi Pinkycat... well not much can be done. I toned down some of the red. When I tried to sharpen all I got was more noise so that doesn't work. I don't know if this helps but here's my take. Good Luck

Thanks for your help! I like what you did with it. I know it's not much to work with, but it's bad at all. Thanks!

To all of you -- thanks so much for your time and efforts. It wasn't much to work with, I know, but it's a precious memory to me and any improvement is great. Thanks again!

[quote=pinkycat]This looks like a color shift do to scanning with a scanner that is not aligned. My scanner needs calibration every once in a while to keep this right. If the original slide is available it should be redone. David in Florida.

Your result seems to have improved facial detail beyond all the coloured versions (at least for me).

Here's a try. I tried to fix the coloring, cleared up some scratches and the dark part on the bottom right of the picture. It still isn't perfect though. What do you think of it?

It wasn't a nasty remark. It's a crap pic. Not commenting on the subject. Just the pic. It's blurry & will never be anything else. The OP thinks it's crap too. Why else would they ask for help to fix it.

Just to clear this up --- This picture is 35 years old. At a funeral, my friend brought this. She still had it in one of those Keychains that you look through from our trip. Her son took it and photographed it with his phone and sent it to all of us. Yes, it is a "crap" photo -- but considering what he had to work with he did the best he could. And for me it's a precious memory I was trying to save. :?

Actually that was a very good effort. Nice Job! Unfortunately the faces are toast because whoever took the picture focused on the hands and then there are those god awful glasses.

To an outsider it is just a photo & a bad one at that. Now! I don't criticise the subject matter & I can't see the sentiment behind it. I feel for you. I haven't said anything that isn't true. I'm currently & have recently worked on several thousand old pic's. Historically sentimental as well to me, but at the end of the day there are some crap pic's in there & I can't do a thing to change that. I don't set out to hurt feelings but if the truth hurts, don't ask.
I once heard a saying: If you ask a question you don't want to hear the answer to. Then Expect an answer you don't want to hear.
I doubt there is a UHHer that ccould fix that pic.

Take the point you're making but there is the possibility of improving rather than fixing - and Aaronphoto and Rathyatra seem to have done that - a combination of their methods may even improve further. As it's the only shot available, got to have been worth the effort.

Thank you, Magnetoman.

To Bunko: The first rule of this forum is "Please be polite". Polite Definition: mannerly, civilized
Synonyms: considerate, courteous, diplomatic, gentle, good-natured, gracious, mild, neighborly, nice, pleasant, polished, respectful, sympathetic, thoughtful.

I have received much "constructive" criticism on this site and have welcomed all of it.

My general point is if you felt it was a crap photo and not worth the effort, why did you feel the need to post that? If you didn't want to bother to help me out, then just move on since your comment was neither constructive or polite. The amount of time you've wasted on this thread is hardly worth it since you really don't care to help.
