New Cameras for everyone this Christmas!

Hi Folks,

As you know, I retired my ole Sony DSC-H9 (still a wonderful bridge camera with full HD movies and 8.1 mp's and 15X zoom for the newer Nikon P-510, that I haven't had time to try out well, yet. About the same time, I decided that I needed a camera about me all the time at work, and many, many of us always said that, "we just wished we had a camera with us at that especial time."

So, in the meantime, I researched and bought a little Panasonic DMC-SZ7, pocket camera with 14 mp and a 10X zoom, with all the bells and whistles that one could need. It fits on my belt like a phone and takes great pictures, with a zoom ratio of my old Tamrons with my SLR Nikons and Canons. Wow, what a small but powerful package!
What great pics it takes in such a little phone sized package!

Okay, so what to buy a 19 year old Son who is taking college classes towards an Internet Technology degree? He built his own computer from ordered parts and recently ordered a movie making software, for whatever purpose, I do not know. Anyway, his old P&S 3X camera died, and I decided to get him one of those discounted Canon SX40's! Heck, talk about an upgrade from his old camera to a new one?!! He has never experienced the joy of an SLR, but I think the Canon SX40 will serve him well. He can make movies and more with this camera. I almost bought one myself, but I went with the Nikon P510.

Then again, I supposed mny Wife's old Sony Cybershot DSC-700, with7.2 mp's and 3X zoom was dated. It works fine and takes wonderful pics, but my Wife's sense of composition is lacking in most of her photos. So and anyway, I went to Amazon and ordered her a new FujiFilm FinePix S4200, with some 14 mp's and a 24X zoom and other upgraded features from her Sony. Surely, she will take the time to learn the features of her new camera and take some time with her composition?!!

Oh well, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All of you UHH folks. Hey, the World did not end on 12/21 and I expect all of you to make the most of the coming year!

I would encourage your wife to investigate some of the "settings" on her new camera - perhaps if she saw the difference the settings make, it may spark some creative juices - it did for me ! Also, your son should get into "manual settings" with the '40 - the only thing it doesn't do is manual focus. (Oh, and when you shoot video, almost always use the "wind sock" on the audio - it's very sensitive.)

Thanks Everyone and Merry Christmas!

I will report later on the photo/movie endeavors of my Wife and Son with their new cameras and see what happens. I doubt I can get my wife to do any composing with thirds and such, and without tree trunks or whatnots sticking out of the heads of someone, but I will try . . . .

Hey, 32 years married to a beautiful blonde, but a blonde she be . . . . .

This may be a New Year's Challenge.

Merry Christmas to ALL on UHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
