Texas has a use tax to cover sales taxes lost on out of state purchases. Of course, it's up to the buyer to pay those taxes to the state. Good luck with that one.The only way I know of them being successful with this is when a vehicle is bought out of state and you register it here. They kind of gotcha on that one. Amazon used to not charge taxes for goods sent to Texas until the state hit them with a hugh tax bill because Amazon had a warehouse here. After back and forth bickering and posturing on both parties, a deal was made and now Texans pay sales tax on Amazon purchases. Oddly enough, sometimes a product search will take me to an Amazon site, but the vendor is B&H and I don't pay the sales tax. Gotta love em, there's just to damn many to kill.

Let`s say Amazon, B&H and Adorama have the same item at the same price; say $2,000.00 Amazon and B&H/ no sales tax added. Adorama adds , in my case, 7% sales tax = $140.00. B&H and Adorama are both in NYC so why am I getting taxed at Adorama? I`ll shop at Amazon or B&H, not a fan of throwing money out the window.

Now that the cats out of the bag...we won't be much longer

Wow, what a bizarre tax system you guys have! One of the benefits of living in a small country I suppose is that things like this are much simpler

Some stores haven't been caught yet on their internet sales without collecting Sales & Use Taxes. Just be aware that technically in most every state that has a Sales Tax, there is another tax that is owed by the BUYER when then buy from out of state without paying the sales tax. Eventually all retailers on the web will get caught and have to charge the proper sales taxes.

I remember paying duty and still saved with free shiping from B&H

That is why we are on the brink of the Fiscal Cliff, not a man or woman knows what the hell is going on in D.C. The entire tax system and structure is KAPUTT

Correct, it is confusing to one living outside the USA and to most living inside too. We have one set of Federal Income Taxes that cover almost all. Each state determines it's own sales tax and state income tax. Municipalities determine property taxes and sometimes a local sales tax.

Wow. Stuff that for a joke!

Our sales tax is a set percent everywhere for everything and is already included in the price so it is very simple

Try Louisiana, The state collects 4% sales tax. But, all the Parishes throughout the state collect their own sales tax. Mostly the sales tax in Louisiana is about 10-11% of every purchase. That's why we have the best politicians money can buy. But we are saving money, our Governor is closing all the state run mental hospitals.

I was sorry to read that this has been your experience; I am always only an email away: Helen@adorama.com for any query / concern / complaint relating to Adorama.

BTW to confirm and clarify; if you are shipping to NJ then we are legally obliged to collect (note: 'collect' not 'charge') State tax, because we have a physical presence there as well as in NYC.

However, a customer shipping to any other State is still obliged to pay State taxes that the purchase may be liable for - we just don't collect it .....

The simple answer is that most states of course are looking for income, so for years they have been missing sales tax on items purchased on the internet, in most cases unless the seller had an outlet in your state, or your state has decided that they must collect sales tax and forward that sales tax to your state.
