Hi all im looking at getting a tablet for use with photoshop can any one recommend a good one please ......
The Wacom tablets are the standard. They have the Bamboo which is less expensive but work well. The Intuos line is the more full-featured. I would never go back to a mouse for retouching work.
I have heard that you can't go wrong using a Bamboo tablet. I have a Monoprice tablet (off brand) that works ok, but it is really too big, I am all over the tablet trying to apply one effect or another. With a smaller tablet you are not moving your arm/hand near as much. A 6 or 7 inch tablet should be sufficient for most users. I am still learning how to utilize mine but when I get through the learning curve I think all will be ok.
It appears that there are a couple of bamboo models which one is the better one ?

I believe the difference is just in the size. Smaller can be better as you need to move less to cover the screen. With the Intuos, you can map the tablet area to whatever screen area you want. Not sure about the Bamboo line, however.
I chose an Intuos for my daughter because of its higher resolution and pen tilt sensitivity, but she is more like a pro user. If this is for a hobby, and you wouldn't miss tilt sensitivity, I think the Bamboo tablets would be a great choice for the money. My daughter used the same Bamboo tablet for several years before getting the new Intuos.

Wacom. You don't need to waste money on a large one - A6 is fine.

I saw the reply to your question and I have one. What is a bamboo tablet and what does it do for me. Is it like an ipad, etc. or what?

I agree with the captain. Have both the large into Intuos 4 and the small Intuos 5. I only use the small one. Smaller is better with this tablet. It is pretty much the industry standard for retouching and compositing. I haven't use a mouse for almost two years.
