so today I decided I would start shooting raw and when I put my SD card in my computer to view in windows live they wouldn't come up, so I understand why that is. So figured I had to go to my canon software and opened them in Zoom browser, which I've never used before but I could see my pictures could't do anything with them though. Went to picture style editor a EOS utility and still can't figure it out. Can anyone help me here before I just say screw it and go back to jpeg?? I also tried to see them in bridge no luck there either.

Thanks

You need a raw editor / converter package. There should be one on your disc. If not try this free one.

I solved that issue by downloading Picasa which is a free product from Google. I use it to import, organize and view my images. It opens raw files without making any changes.

If you have zoombrowser then you should also have Digital Photo Professional (raw editor).

From what I understand, if you have a Canon with RAW capability, you should have gotten the DPP program on the cd for working with the RAW files. PaintShop Pro, PhotoShop, etc and a number of other editors also have RAW capabilities.

Don't throw in the towel. Processing RAW like anything new requires a learning curve. Stick with it- I guarantee you won't be sorry. Once you learn all that RAW can do you will never look back. Good luck and kudos for taking the plunge!

Dang it, was going to throw in the towel tried to process 23 pictures and it took almost half hour to do it, that's gotta be wrong I know they're huge files but geez. Put them in CS3 turns them into a tiff then can't load them on here, I am more confused than I thought I was.

Didn't realise you had Photo Shop. If you ight click on the icon and choose Open with > Photo Shop. It should open in the RAW editor. A programme like Picasa will let you view them but I don't think it will let you convert them to JPGs.

ok apparently cs3 and my new camera 60D don't want to play together with RAW files, I had already thought of getting lightroom 4 and it looks like that would be a good match, what came with the camera is ok I suppose I could get it all figured out but still doesn't seem that friendly to me, but everything seems that way in the beginning I suppose.

You can open up your RAW files using the "Digitial Photo Professional" software that comes as a DVD supplied with your camera. You can then make appropriate adjustments (contrast, white balance etc) and when you are done convert to TIFF or JPG files.
