Yet again we have another massacre in a US school !!
I know we are not perfect in the UK but how can these events occur so often in the US when so many innocent people are killed by some maniac ?

Not just the USA good grief take a look around. By global standards the USA is a pretty safe place to hang your hat. It's a big country, if you want to compare our crime rate against yours you need to take some small state and compare those numbers geesh!

We have a lot of people. Mental illness per capita is probably greater here with our population compared to yours.

A nut with a gun doesn't make guns bad.

I just hope and pray the ' Death Penalty ' is made mandatory in every state in the United States. Then killers won't get cable tv, great meals, gym equipment and huge libraries and schooling.

A prisoner needs a 4 foot x 6 foot cell with a hole in the floor for toilet, a spigot for water and a wooden cot with a wool blanket for sleeping. Maybe 1 hour a day out in the courtyard for fresh air and sunlight.

Other than that, prisoners suck and so should their conditions.

Maybe it is their only shot at fame! We have become such a media driven country that values are lost anymore... The media will probably spend 2 weeks on this and the gun debate sure to follow.... Most people in this country and other places will know the name of Ryan Lanza and maybe that is all he wanted...

It is a shame that these guys can't just pull the trigger on themselves before the shooting starts, their going down anyway so why not leave others in peace.... They won't even be here get whatever perverse pleasure out of their act that they somehow want to be remembered for.... What is the point of a shooting such as this?

Dunblane, Hungerford, Cumbria, Chingford, you don't have much room to talk. Especially considering the difference in size and population.

I personally feel a great sorrow for the children, the parents who lost children, and all of those in the Sandyhook school area. At this point , I do not feel that we should be comparing countries and their respective laws. There are as many opinions on who is right or wrong as there are countries in the world. We should all stop and pray for the victims and thier families, for this is a human tragedy. I hope that we can all be human, and civil at a time like this. Rather than being critical of others policies, lets all try in some small way to come up with a solution which will prevent things such as this from ever happening again, while preserving the rights which make this the world we all want to live in.

Agree 100%

Down here on the border many people want to go to jail because conditions are much better than what they have at home. I wonder about their being free means to them but that isn't mentioned.

I didn't say two wrongs make a right, I said you didn't have room to talk about the US with all the mass murderers that you've had in the UK. Out of curiosity, what is it you have done about it? And how well has it worked?

Because some people are evil and some people are mentally deranged all over the planet! You cannot justify or explain it, it just is.

These idiots do this for their 15 minutes of fame or for ????? and you or I cannot control that. The gun control fanatics will come out of the woodwork, again. That will not solve the problem! How is the war on drugs working out? Make it illegal and that will fix the problem doesn't work, never has.

I was just watching channel 11 in L.A. on a news conference with L.A.P.D. on the Conn shooting and some idiot reporter asked a question about gun control!!! What a narrow minded idiot!. The Commander answered, "I'm not here to discuss gun control".

I just googled "bomb making" and got 180.000.000 responses! If an evil or mentally deranged individual is set on causing destruction, they will. All they need is a computer! Should we outlaw them as well?

Man do I agree with you! I know in this case the criminal is gone. But life in jail is MUCH better than street life...so whats the penalty, its an incentive!

I am sickened everytime I hear about a child being killed. "Gun laws" have been tried, they don't work. Look at the laws in Illinois, and then check Chicago's murder rate. Look at the laws in the U.K., and then see how the crime rate has increased. I'm afraid we only have two options. 1) Turn our schools into a compound, with guards and metal detectors. or (my suggestion) 2) Just as planes have "air marshalls", so should schools. One, maybe two teachers and/or admin (principles, etc.) depending on size of school, should be TRAINED and allowed to carry firearms.

I know this is not what people want to hear, I don't like it either, however this is what our world has become. If you ask 100 people "why" things like this happen, you will get 100 answers. Violence in movies/video games. The need for attention or fame (due to things such as facebook, and reality T.V.) The results of pampering our children, such as "time outs" (they don't see any consequences for their actions. It's always somebody else's fault). I think it is a combination of many things.

I'd like to see every school teacher/employee (office) trained in firearms. Whether they carry or not would be their decision. But pay would be increased with the added knowledge of self defense training.

Didn't NYC just a couple weeks ago have their 1st day in forever without a homicide? Pretty sure I heard something to that effect...whats the point? Nothing, just saying...
