Then and Now - Swanage Old Pier

Thought I'd show you a scan from a negative taken around 1927 and my photo of how it is now. In the background is the 'new' pier, which has subsequently been restored. I have a small collection of old negatives of the area that I find absolutely fascinating, but I may be biased!

Yes, those big negs can certainly yield some sharp pics - some are on glass, some celluloid. Expect you watched the fireworks off that jetty - and we still have a Punch and Judy man - got an old photo of the original fellow somewhere!

I had an opportunity to suit up in a hard-hat rig like that back in 2000 with Dick Rutkowski's diving program in Key West.
Looked like FAR too much of a hassle to emulate Diver Dan (a program I DO remember watching :-) ) - - but I got these photos:

Like the shots - those suits look so cumbersome, moving around down there must be a bit of a task? From other negs I have, it appears the Swanage guys made fairly regular inspections (at least, that's what I assume they were up to). The pier he's on had most of the decking removed by that time. How did you like vintage diving?

Sorry for the confusion - - although I had the opportunity - - I did not take advantage of it. Several others did - - it took them about 30 min to get in and/or out of the rig, and on land - it was VERY heavy and cumbersome. I decided just to participate vicariously
