Night photo of Christmas Lights

My suggestion agrees with exposing for the Cathedral and let the lights take care of themselves. Shoot with a tripod at the LOWEST ISO, not a high one, and in RAW. Bracket as well. I also prefer to shoot early enough so there is still some light in the sky to silhouette the buildings. Good luck

I went downtown Friday evening and caught the Square all lit up. I did shoot in Raw, with a low ISO. This is what I got. The fog started to roll in as I was shooting.

Depending on the time of day you may not be able to get a good image at ISO 100. I would try several settings starting at ISO 100 and work your way up the ISO scale to get the image you think is your best shot.
