First of all I would like to say hello and that i have been following many of the current discussions and have found them very helpful thank all of you for all the questions you have answered to other people and have helped me,

I have a Canon 7D and also have a Canon T3I, and my question is that if the cameras both should behave the same, when the settings are set the same way?, the reason for my question is, The 7D can take up to 8 FPS but i can only get the camera to do this in any mode other than automatic is this normal? In addition to this I can only get it to take the pictures at that rate is using the screen behind the camera and i dont like to use this method, because it takes to long to focus and I prefer the view finder, and when I use the viewfinder and I push the shutter button I need to press it twice to get the camera to complete the photo, What am I doing wrong please help, and please keep in mind that i have the experience of a 10 year old with cameras!

Buy Dave Busch's field manual for the 7d and learn your camera. Yes, it is normal that you can't get 8fps in automatic. You aren't doing anything anything wrong. Learn your camera and use the other settings. I think the problem is inexperience .

Check your mirror lock in menu. If it's enabled, you have to press shutter button twice when using the viewfinder. Goodluck

I agree with everyone so far, the 7D is a great camera but has so many features it takes some study and learning. I had to buy the book mentioned above before I could figure out and use the camera in certain modes. Buy the book and take your time setting up the camera for the type of shooting you do and then practice.

I agree with everyone that the first thing you should is read your manual. But to get the 8FPS make sure you have a fast card and use the Back Button Focus. You can find all of this in your manual. Also check out You-Tube. The 7D is a great camera.

Hi Mgarcia. Welcome to UHH. I also own the 7D Camera. It't a very good camera, but you need to do a lot of reading to learn the camera. I bought David Busch's Compact Field Guied for the 7D Camera. It's a very good book. Here is a link for the book from B&H.

Good Luck with your 7D camera

You certainly need to get a book and bone up on the camera but be careful which book you get. Be sure it is Dave Busch's book. There is another book out there titled EOS 7D for Dummies. The title is incorrect it should read: EOS 7D by Dummies. It is merely a poor and confusing rehash of the Canon manual and I found in some cases it made more sense if I read some of the sentences backwards.
As far as your other question is concerned, I recently ran some tests with a 7d and T2i shooting closeups with the same lens and settings and got virtually the same result with either camera. The shots were essentially the same on the computer monitor except for differences to be expected by changing cameras on the tripod. They each use the same sensor and processor so the results were to be expected. I did not print any of the shots.
As others have indicated a good starting point for understanding the camera is to study the manual if you can't get ahold of Busch's book. Read up on the parts concerning focus and multiple exposures and it will get you headed in the right direction.

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to orient me in the right direction, I have solved the issue I had with the shutter getting stuck, (With all your help) I went to the C.FN lll Menu Autofocus/Drive and changed parameter #6 To Enable and this solved the problem I can now take pictures on high speed mode using the viewfinder, but what really gets to me is that there is no way I could have changed this parameter I did not even know this existed, after the camera worked like I wanted I then did the firmware update! again thank you and keep expecting the dumb questions.

Think of your camera like a musical instrument, more difficult to learn on a professional oboe than on a student model. The Busch books are very helpful, likely more so than the manual that came with your camera. Take to heart what others said about taking time to learn your 7D instrument....even though this issue is solved, others will surface.

Also go into your C.Fn and check your High Iso and Long Exposure Noise Reduction. Any noise reduction will slow down burst rates. When I need high burst speed this is the one time I shoot JPEG instead of Raw.

Hi to all on this thread.

I just bought a 7D from B&H ( July 2013 ) and would like to ask this group of users a few questions if I may do so.

Does anyone know the latest firmware update to the 7D, I want to be sure my 7D has the latest?

Can anyone recommend settings for BIF which is my main use of the camera ( I use a 100-400mm L with the 7D) ?

Is there a user's group for 7D's?

I am ordering the David Busch Field Guide for the 7D today.

Thank you all for your help.

Tom
