Bring a long lens

I don't always carry my big, er very big , 100-400 zoom; but when I do, I usually find something to point it at. Here I was standing on the other side of an inlet while the man on the other side was fishing and not really noticing me at all. I was all the way zoomed in at 400mm so the buildings behind the fisherman are foreshortened even though they are quite a distance away from where we were. I had to set the tripod as high as it would go to just barely get separation between the man's head and the rocks in the middle ground. The pre-dawn mist and lights also help this composition.

Fine image Erich. The fog adds a layer of mystery to the image.

Thank you. I think without the fog, this would not be much more than a record shot of where I was; but the fog, and to an extent the lights, raise it up a notch in my estimation. Thank you for taking a look.

The fisherman's stance, the substantial bulk of the jetty vs. the indistinct lights and buildings... fascinating, eye-catching!

I think it would look better, however, if straightened If it was only the lights leaning left, probably OK, but the tipping buildings distract me.

When I took a quick look I thought might be military. He looked like he was holding a rifle and wearing a helmet. Once my eyes adjusted I could see how very wrong I was.😀
Overall I think it works out. The fog the distant lighting and building. I understand your explanation with your tripod height. But it looks like he cast his line into the rocks. Perhaps cropping some of those rocks out would solve that problem.

I like your take on this photo. I'll be sure to fix the tippy building. I really must be more careful about those errors. Thanks for your comments.

No military engagements here, just a battle for the biggest fish. Thanks for taking a look. Glad you liked the photo.

Me to, some nice arm and rod movement in download+ as the angler reels in and trolls.

No military, just a guy fishing. Thanks for taking a look.
