The German ME 262, the finest fighter Air Craft of WW II. If the German Air Force had put these jets into real service the German military would have taken back air superiority durn the war.

American piolets begged to have these jets, (the US had over 800 of them after the fall of Nazi Germany) to fly against the Russian Migs that the Chineas were using in the Korean conflict (war) so that they could take command of the skies. This was an assume weapon and a good thing the German Air Force decided to loose against the allies they so hated Hitler and the Nazi Party.

Although the ME-262 was a great air superiority fighter, it gained its edge because there was nothing else that could keep up with it. The ME-262 did have some serious flaws. It was extremely vulnerable during take-offs and landings. In fact many of them were shot down by the slower prop-driven allied planes when they returned to base. The engines of the ME-262 were extremely fragile, and required a lot of maintenance just to keep them airworthy. The P-51 Mustang, while much slower in level fight had an advantage of far greater maneuverability.

In time of wars such as WW-II, it's often the quantity of war materiels which make the difference between winning and losing the conflict.

Yes, their were a lot of surplus ME-262's after the war, but the newer MIG-15's were far more agile, but the fragility of the ME-262 was a real handicap. The MIG-15's also had a 150mph +/- advantage in level flight.

All good information, sadly this isn't an ME-262 as it does have a prop. (unless there are prop versions out there).

This is a more modern aircraft, based on the fuselage roundel (marking). The cross displayed was introduced in 1955 and is still used by the Luftwaffe today.

The model is timeless.

And here all along I thought the photo was about the little lady sitting so discretely on the wing of a German airplane

Great photo of both the lady and the plane

The airplane looks like a Navion to me. It was a great airplane and still highly thought of. I think North American made it, but I'm not positive..
