This site was the first gator we encountered at Gulf Shores State Park. The gator was chasing a turtle around the bank. It was exciting watching nature at work. The gator did not get the turtle.

The snout looks a bit pointed, sure it's not a crock?
The American Crocodile lives in salt water and brackish areas in Florida.

Yes, but only far south, as in the Everglades. Or so I've been told.
I think it's a gator.

Could be.

American Crocodile Range

Just so everyone knows where crocodiles are found in Florida.
Not typically in the Panhandle.

In Clearwater, FL, behind my office at the time... many years ago, there was a pond and a walking path around it... which was popular at lunch time. I was on my lunch break ine day when a gator grabbed a turtle. The gator tried to get a better/deeper grip and the turtle got away... but left his left rear leg behind. For many months that was a subject of discussion on lunch walks and everyone liked seeing the 3 legged turtle still around. There were a couple of other turtles there with scrape marks on their shell... but none so famous as the 3 legged turtle.
