I am looking for a simple AI program to do an oil painting effect on my family photo. I have no experience with AI, but I appreciate any help. Thanks.

What programs do you have now…Photoshop has a oil painting function…

Or consider using https://fotosketcher.com/
fotosketcher’s purpose in life is to do exactly what you are looking for.
Windows based only, no Mac so that could be an issue.

It is free.

Don’t let yourself get so wrapped up in AI, thinking anything that changes an image is AI based. That is not the case.

Look at Dynamic Auto Painter Pro.
It"s not AI based. But it can turn a Photo into an oil painting, as well numerous other styles.

there is a limited Mac version.. The product for this used to be Topaz Studio 2 but Topaz has discontinued the product so you can’t get it.

Please don't confuse FotoSketcher with some other program...FotoSketcher is alive and well (current version is 3.90) and has never been part of the Topaz family. It is only available for Windows...not MAC...sadly. The reference to an experimental version for the Mac on the download page can't be found...unless...maybe you are on a Mac. I've not tried that approach. I shall now ponder off to FotoSketcher on a MAC to see...

There is no MAC version on the download page while using a MAC - latest version.

my fault it was supposed to say Topaz Studio 2 was the go to app for painting and lots more but it has been discontinued. There is a Mac version of FotoSketcher because I have it. And yes it does not have the current pc version. The original poster never said what platform he is on.

IF you have photoshop its can be done quite well with Gen Fill BUt you have to know how to do it, its not just telling it to make the pic an oil painting. Heres how.
Load the pic into PS
press the letter Q layer box on right turns red
Press the color selection box on the left
when color picker comes up pick dark gray ( different dark shades gets different results)
then at the same time click alt and backspace pic turns red
press Q again
now in the gen fill box tell it to make it an oil painting
hope this helps

That approach is out of your control other than regenerating to try to get what you want and limited in resolution to 1028x1028 pixels. There are other old approaches in PS which use brushes to paint on the images with a ton more control. Look for YouTube videos.
