Kodak Mini Shot 3

I watched a photographer on YouTube saying how much he likes the Kodak Mini Shot 3. After you take a picture, you either print it or lose it. It uses the four-color technique, printing one color at a time and going back to print another. I have an old Kodak EasyShare with an accompanying printer that works the same way.

Have any of you used this camera, or the Mini 2? For a little over $100, it sounds tempting.

EDITED: Surprisingly, I can install the Kodak Printer App on my cell phones. That will let me take pictures with the phone and print them with the camera. My phones don't accept most apps.

A lot less than for Polaroid. About $0.30 per sheet, plus tax.

Kodak is strong on the thermal printing area. I wanted a dye sub printer but people don't buy them and after a while when the printer is discontinued the manufacturers don't sell supplies any more. I can't use ink jet because I don't print often (as won't print anything with inkjet except photos) and I just basically let the ink dried out and wasting ink to clean the clogged print heads.

A Canon Pro 100/200 will solve that problem. I often go many months without turning the printer on - never an issue.

I print several days a week, quite a few pages for various situations. I prefer laser for black and inkjet for color.

Yes, that sounds very interesting. I have several medium format Bronica GS-1 cameras (6x7 cm). Although I have several Polaroid backs, there is no available Polaroid film. I'm wondering whether this "cartridge" might be retrofit to serve as my camera back.... ????

No! the cartridge is the ribbon and paper to refill a thermal dye sub printer that is built in to the Mini Shot 3 camera.

It seems that that if you modify the polaroid back to accept Fuji Instax film would be nice as the Instax film is just about the 6x4.5 size.

I’ve had a Canon Selphy 1300 for a couple of years, and bought the Selphy 1500 last year for my son, right after Costco closed down their photofinishing. Cost per print is about 30 to 33 cents. Every thing is for 4x6 prints. You can borderless or use white or black borders.

Thermal transfer (dye sublimation) printing with 4 passes in about 50 seconds a print. Canon says they expect a 100 year life from these prints.

B&H. Amazon, WalMart and others have the machines and supplies. About $115 to $140.

Refills are sold in a package that contains paper and the ink film, in matching quantities. I buy a box for 108 prints, which has 3 ribbon cartridges good for exactly 36 prints each, and 6 packs of 18 sheets of the 4x7 paper. The extra inch (it provides a grip for the machine to move the paper) you can remove easily. Its perforated.

Connections by wifi, and bluetooth, so printing from iPhone app is easy.

I haven’t tried direct printing from the wifi in my camera, but I know I can link camera and phone. So, worst case, I would take that extra step and transfer pic from camera to phone. then transfer photos from the phone to the printer. That also gives me the chance to crop using the phone’s software.

Both units can take a battery pack so you can use this mobile. It isn’t as small as a polaroid, but I can take it to a party and have prints to share in about a minute.

Watching the paper come out of the machine 4 times as it lays down the different color layers is mesmerizing.

But I need printer that can print at least 8x10, preferably larger. Kodak used to make them and I think Mitsubishi is currently having some models. I was interested in the Kodak but many of them can't be used any more because they stopped making the ribbon and paper.
