Digital Artistry - Zebra (Negative Space)

This is another fast and loose charcoal sketch this time using only black. All white areas of the zebra are negative space (the white of the canvas) so the black creates the illusion of a zebra.

I sketched the zebra using a black charcoal digital brush. I used a fine-tip eraser to emulate the fine hairs as I erased fine strokes out of the black charcoal. The muzzle of the zebra was created using soft pressure strokes of the stylus on the digital graphic tablet.

The stylus is pressure sensitive and it can increase the size of the brush, the opacity, or both depending on how firmly it is pressed on the graphic tablet.

Very effective... Well done. I am sure you are getting faster and this shows you have come quickly to great sketching.

Looking back to my painting days in the mid-1960s, I was careful about getting oil paint or charcoal onto the carpet ... no one would notice if you spilled a few photons.

You have quite a knack for creating something out of nothing. Such as white (nothing)into a subject.
