This is the completed version of my digitally painted lioness. I posted the initial rough concept sketch and the line art with the base color blocked in to show how I go from concept to completion.

This piece was created using a digital painting program and a digital graphic display tablet using a stylus for the emulated brushwork.

Two aspects jump out at me: the details of the grass, including the reddish color to match the lion's coat; and the shadow on the side of her nose. Outstanding work!

Thanks, Linda. I wanted to do a lion and I chose a lioness for it was easier than a majestic male (perhaps I'll give one a try next). I wanted to share what I believed to be the importance of blocking in base color under-painting for those who may be interested in digital painting.

Thanks, Carol. I believe if a subject has eyes, it is best to do a good job of them for the eyes will make or break the subject.
