Does anyone know a good website for downloading free fonts? I'm looking for an old western type font and need some suggestions. If anyone could help me, I would greatly appreciate it. I have Windows 7.

Like you have already read, Google search can be very informative.

BUT, be very cautious when installing the fonts, some of them carry more than a few letters and symbols. Some of the compressed (.zip) files carry embedded viruses, Trojans, and other nasty applications that will install in your computer and infect your system and all your contacts.

It OK to download the font archive (.zip), and save it to a folder on your system. Some archives have the extension .exe because they are an automatic "self extractor", do not double click on this file.

For the time being create a special folder on your hard dive to contain the downloaded file, do not name it Fonts. Download and save the font file into this new folder. Once saved, right click the font file once and from the context menu left click on your anti-virus program to scan this new font file. This will tell you if the downloaded file is safe to install and use on your system. It should also display all the internal files contained inside the archive file.

If all looks OK you can either extract the font files into your Windows Font folder, or move the "font files" into your Windows Font folder.

You can use free font files if you exercise care and good preventive practices to keep your computer virus free. Free files often carry more than they advertise, its how the writers make their money, selling nasty applications to unsuspecting hosts.
