Prior to the advent of the Ferrari period, Alfa Romeo considered itself to be the de facto Italian National Racing Team. First released for a world wide showing at the Paris show, it was the most mechanically advanced racing car of its time. The 8 cylinder, twin-cam, supercharged engine was a marvel of engineering.
The car was raced in Europe until 1940 when it was sold to an American and brought over the th U,S. It sold again in 1991 to another American. In 2003, it underwent an exhaustive ( and very expensive ) restoration.
The car sold for $9500 in 1932. The value of this car today is pegged at $9,500,000 to $10,000,000.
Beautiful car. I drove a 61 Spyder once. After my MGA the body lean on the Alpha scared the life out of me.

Ha, I believe that, buddy. Note above...I included another picture.
A college friend bought a new Alfa Romeo Spyder. He wanted to show me how well if handled. There was a new subdivision being developed, no houses yet but streets were in. All of the lots had nothing but sand on them (no landscaping had been done yet ) and a lot of sand was on the streets.
We went flying around one corner, hit some sand, he lost control and we went sliding up into the lot. A veritable wall of sand was thrown up and covered us in that car...I mean COVERED us and the interior. We got most of it out by nightfall but he was getting sand out of some places for the next couple of days.

I think so too, Mike. In addition, cars of this ilk have character.

I understand where you're coming from, Terry. But it's a matter of perspective. If the offer to you or me is whether we want the car or the money...dumb question. Make the same offer to a very wealthy car collector, well,,,he driving that car home.

Thanks for stopping by. You are correct...Alfa spelled spider with an i rather than a y. Your car is also a fine looking ride.
