Aurora Borealis - A bit of a bust!

Got a yellow Aurora email alert at 11:00pm. Normally yellow means a pretty reasonable showing so grabbed my camera, lens and tripod, hurried up to my usual viewing spot and fired up the equipment.

The first half hour was pathetic! The next half hour had some action but nothing to write home about. The last half hour was a touch better but ultimately wiped out by cloud.

Shot with a Sony A7R V and Samyang 14mm lens, tripod mounted. Captured 432x10 sec. subs at ISO1600.

Processed in Lightroom/Photoshop and Adobe Premiere.

A few pix attached and a time-lapse at: https://www.flickr.com/photos/brianallan/53625218337/in/album-72177720315884808/.

Enjoy!

sort of cool to do a star trail along with the aurora. and that might be sort of pathetic (your words) but here in the deep south we would be happy just to see a little green in the sky

When you start seeing great Auroras in Georgia I'd suggest you find a generator because there would be power failures and all sorts of electronic mayhem, per the Carrington Event of 1859.

Normally when I receive an Aurora alert I get to see something other than simply a little northern activity. Something closer to the attached is anticipated... But I'm probably badly spoiled WRT Auroras.

About 25 years ago when we were living in Texarkana, Tx we came home from a meeting to be greeted by red, green and other colors in the sky. It was a couple of hours after sundown so I knew it wasn't that. There was nothing on the news at all about it. Lasted about 15 minutes. I wasn't equipped to photograph it at the time but sure wish I had been.

Beautiful Brian!
Loved the Time Lapse!

For those of us who have never seen a live Aurora this is pretty fantastic.
So not a bust for us. Thanks!

The real 'awe' is seeing a full sky Aurora where it just seems to crackle overhead.

I couldn’t even imagine that beauty! I would be outside watching and photographing it all the time lol. 😆
