Out the door 4:45 A.M., 6: 30 Pick Sharon up head to Denny's for breakfast,Lovely morning but a bit windy, On the road,I270 to route 3 ( The Great River Road) head north very nice drive Stop in Hartford,Il to check out the Chain of Rocks, Too early gate closed, bummer. Back on the road to the park, make notes of things to photograph on the way home. Arrived at the park lodge had another breakfast ( Lunch?) too early in the season not much going on.
Took the Scenic drive behind the lodge over the bluff above the G.R.R. stopped at a few of the overlooks, could have been great shots of the Illinois River Valley except for too much brush blocking the views.
Back on the G.R.R. headed south, stopping for photographs along the way.
Crossed the Mississippi on the Clark Bridge (too much traffic for photos) Next stop the Melvin Price Lock and Dam. Next stop Sharons then home. Total miles 304.8, time approx.12 hours.

PAR4DCR Loc: A Sunny Place

Nice set Frank. Liked the river towboat, M/V Bruce L. Hahn and barges. Working career, 45 yrs., was spent on the Mississippi River interacting with tows and ocean vessels. I scheduled the loading and unloading of these vessels at a bulk terminal about 40 miles south of New Orleans.
