Hoping the weather is clear, like many Hoggers planning for Eclipse.
Aside from tele stills (600 x1.4 extender x1.5 DX) with solar filter, thinking of wide angle time lapse of field in back of house, to show darkening.
Is it safe to include sun in frame using wide angle or will it damage sensor ( Nikon D800E or ZFc at around 35 mm equivalent)?
One has time lapse photo other time lapse video, effect I want is darkening in field.
Should I fix exposure at begining of dark period or use Program exposure?
During dark phase Program can increase ISO .
Please share any ideas and let’s all hope for clear skies.

In usual usage I'm sure you have included the sun in the view of a wide angle lens. That is fine.

If you want to show the general darkening, then you will be needed to usual manual exposure. P, A or S would compensate for the darkness and you would lose the effect. Having said that, the change in lighting will be dramatic. You may wish to slightly overexpose during the well lit phase so that when things go dark your images are not jet black. For the same reasons, don't use auto ISO. Make sure focus is manual also. When quite dark autofocus might go into hunting mode and screw it all up.

Pro tip....as the sun diminishes the air gets considerably cooler. That alone may throw any form of preset focus off by a bit.
