I delegate all my eclipse pix to the hired help. Theres nothing unique to anyones results, so Ive found nothing personally rewarding in it.

When Ive watched them, I used a telescope with a projection panel. No direct viewing, so no filters needed. Such a rig allows enjoying the whole event thaz surrounding you. If you wanna photograph the projected image, very simple gear will do it. But really, why do it ?

Yep, it’s one of those things I have no interest in. I’d love to do some Milky Way photography and plan on it this summer, but what makes those photos is having great foreground elements. Solar eclipse photos just don’t interest me at all.

I am considering doing this with all my flower pictures, too. If one has seen one set of petals and the pistil and stamens, one has seen them all.

Putting the sarcasm aside, I do understand what you are saying, but to me, if I could get there it would be to see how much data/details I could get and then compare them with the photos I took in 1970. It i s interesting to compare the "shape" of the corona close to the Sun with what sunspots, prominences, and flares might be on the Sun at the same time. The shape of the corona is related to the magnetic field of the Sun on any given day. It changes daily/monthly/annually.

If I can use my camera next Monday (I have cataract surgery in the morning), I'd like to see if I can block the Sun's disk during the partial eclipse we will see hare in Virginia. --Richard
