Imagine having Steven King reading bedtime stories to kids. "Get to bed right now, or I'll send Steven King in to read to you!"

When my kids were small I would often read them bedtime stories...but I would often insert my own words into the stories. Sometimes I would get a puzzled look, but with them not being of reading age I would get away with it. That all changed later when they could read, and I would be challenged with something like "Where does it say that?", It took all of the fun out of 'bedtime stories'.
