I just learned from one of our local birder's blog that the yellow-headed blackbirds are back at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. The attached set from one of my trips out there last year shows the distinctive colors. This species is larger than the more common red winged blackbird. Their call sounds like a rusty gate opening.

If the weather is good, I am going out next week to see for myself.
