There is something special about the Andes Mountains. I've seen the Rockies, and they're beautiful. But the Andes are different. First of all, they're volcanic, and the soil from ancient eruptions is rich and deep. Therefore, they are farmed, sometimes to the very top! People live at extremely high altitudes and work the land. I find that amazing.
We worked at 11,000 and 12,000 feet a couple of days. Roads are sometimes paved and sometimes not and finding one's way means asking at every opportunity!

In this steep environment, fields are worked by hand. It is not unusual for people to walk for hours to get to their fields, work all day, then walk home.

Excellent set, Kathy! Cotapaxi should be on your wall.

Thanks, Mike. My walls are full, but I might make a print to sell! I've tried for years to get a picture of Cotapaxi, but it's always covered with clouds. My friend who was driving us back to Quito airport knew just where to stop for a picture!
Outstanding work, Kathy. You're really maximizing the great opportunity you've had to experience the Andes.
These are breathtaking. I am impressed by your description of the hardworking farmers, too.

Thanks. One cannot but be in awe of them and those who live there.

Thanks. They are breathtaking - literally as well as figuratively.
