Thanks, RodeoMan. Regarding your proposal, I think that would be a better shot than this one. However, I don't think it would be "street." Almost by definition, "street" equals "candid," and you would essentially be posing him. There's only one type of situation I've seen where you could ask for permission and still get candid (street) shots: where you were at something like a flea market, and you see a booth owner doing interesting things. You could ask his permission to shoot him. He'll probably agree, and then spend the next few minutes posing for you. You'll humor him by taking a few shots, then you'll step back and wait. Soon he'll remember that he has a booth to run, and will go back to work, forgetting about you. THEN you'll start doing your serious shooting of him, and your shots will be candid.

Perhaps this is a bit sneaky, but....
