After the walking tour concluded, we spent some more time wandering around Monaco on our own, something we like to do.
We walked past and into the Chapel of Mercy as we wandered around Monaco, photos 2-5. The Chapel of Mercy (French: La Chapelle de la Miséricorde) is a Roman Catholic church on the Rue Basse in Monaco's Monaco-Ville district. The chapel was built in 1639 and served as the seat of the Brotherhood of the Black Penitents. Honoré II, Prince of Monaco, served as the brotherhood's first prior. The interior decoration features wooden sculpture by François Joseph Bosio.

Thank you Mark. We stumbled across the church in our wandering, and it was a beautiful example of one of the reasons we like to wander around rather than have a specific plan. As I mentioned, we wandered around Europe for 11 weeks in 1973 with no reservations, just a general idea of where we wanted to go and student Eurail passes. Of course that was before this thing called the internet and cell phones. I don't think I would want to do that now, but sometimes it makes sense. We had reserved all of our hotels on our month-long road trip around Italy last year, but had one place that we were really looking forward to that when we arrived, was a "disaster" and we decided not to stay. After a few minutes of web surfing on our phones in a parking lot across from the hotel, we found a place about 15 minutes away that turned into one of the nicest hotels of the entire trip.
The pizza was delicious, as was the wine. Even though we think of Monaco as being essentially French, it's only about 6 miles from the Italian border.
