This set continues our walk around Monaco. After walking past the high school, we walked through Les Jardins Saint Martin, photos 2 and 3. The Jardin St. Martin are located in the Monaco-Ville ward of Monaco. The gardens are made up of a series of paths on the south west face of the Rock of Monaco. They have an estimated area of 11,200 square meters (1.12 hectares). Flora include Aleppo pine trees and yellow agaves in its terraces with medieval fortifications also featuring in the gardens. Archaeological finds in the gardens have been dated to the Holocene era.

After we walked through the gardens, we came upon Fontvieille which is the southernmost ward in the Principality of Monaco. It was developed by Italian engineer Gianfranco Gilardini and designed by architect Manfredi Nicoletti, between the 1970s and the 1990s.

In contrast to the other city districts Monaco-Ville, Monte Carlo and La Condamine, Fontvieille was constructed, after Italian engineer Gianfranco Gilardini's design, almost entirely on artificially reclaimed land and thus represents one of the younger parts of the principality. In order to combat the chronic land shortage in the extremely densely populated principality, the work was begun in 1966 to create new land in the Mediterranean Sea southwest of le rocher. In 1981, Albert II, then Crown Prince, laid the cornerstone for the new city quarter.

The existence of Fontvieille, and its many public works projects, relates substantially to former Prince of Monaco, Prince Rainier III's reputation as the Builder Prince.

Despite not being the highest-priced part of Monaco, flats are also very expensive. For example, a 65 m2 (700 ft²) one bedroom apartment with one bathroom and one car parking space was offered at €3,200,000 in May 2015.

Next, we visited St. Nicholas Cathedral. A young church by European standards, it was consecrated in 1875. This is the burial site of the royal family, including American actress-turned-princess, Grace Kelly. Photo 8 is the burial site of Prince Albert I. Albert I (Albert Honoré Charles Grimaldi; 13 November 1848 – 26 June 1922) was Prince of Monaco from 10 September 1889 until his death in 1922. He devoted much of his life to oceanography, exploration and science. Alongside his expeditions, Albert I made reforms on political, economic and social levels, bestowing a constitution on the principality in 1911.

Thanks Mark; and I'm glad you enjoyed the narrative. I develop digital books using PowerPoint and include most of the narrative that ends up in my posts. I learn a lot by doing the research, much of which I wish I had known when I was at the different places. Of course when you are on a guided tour you are getting a lot of information, but it is difficult to capture. If you are on your own, as we are often, you don't get much information.

Thank you John, those were taken with my compact (fit in your shirt pocket) Canon G5X Mk II that has a 20MP 1" sensor and a f1.8-2.8 24-120mm lens. Much better than walking around with my DSLR.
