I purchased a generic remote that looks much like the Nikon remote. The reason I did not get the Canon branded remote was the cost. I use the
remote once in a while but it is always close by in my camera bag if needed.
O.K. Thanks for the info haroldross.

I use Promaster Shutter Release. I leave it on my camera all the time so it gets some abuse. I think it was $39.00. On my second one in 5years.
www.promaster.com Good luck.
Go back to Amazon and search "INTERVELOMETER FOR CANON 7D". One of the choices is only about $8. I would be tempted to experiment with that one first. I bought a similar item several years ago from Honk Kong. About $30 and works fine.
I bought one exactly like that (timer, box, manual, Canon warrenty) new from china on Ebay for $35. Works great! Whatever you buy make sure the plug has the "gray" slide lock to attach it to the camera. About 90% of the third party under $20 timers and remote switches have a black molded plug without the slide lock and will fall off the camera with the slightest tug or holding the camera in portrait.
