It is likely that most UHHers have seen a $2 bill? You may well have wondered if it's funny money. It's not. The $2 bill has been printed by the U.S. Treasury almost continuously since the Civil War, and there are still 1.4 billion of them in circulation. The last series of $2 bills was printed in 2017.

• The $10,000 bill was the largest denomination ever to be printed for public circulation in the U.S.
• A collector cannot legally hold a $100,000 bill. What to govt. would do if you have one is unknown.
• Today, a $500 or $1,000 bill may be worth more than its face value as a collector's item.

These 6 U.S. currency are no longer printed.

I had an uncle that gave me a two dollar bill on my birthday and Christmas, my dad had a hardware store and I picked up a few there. Now I have a couple of hundred dollars worth. My dad didn't like them because there was no place for them in the cash register.
I've seen a five hundred dollar bill and held it, doesn't feel any different than a one dollar bill.
I remember currency issued back in 1800s. They were really big and called horse blankets
Interesting post thanks

Have never seen a bill bigger than $100. Didn’t know bigger ones existed. Showing my ignorance.

Neat story about the $1 Million display at Horseshoe! I assume it was protected by heavy glass, much like the Declaration of Independence.

Those big bills were used for transactions between banks when they transferred money and checks to each other before the computer era.

A $2 bill helped me get home one weekend when I was in the Navy. Way back in the late 60s maybe early 70s, I was driving home for a weekend and was a bit low on cash but knew my parents would bail me out and make sure I had enough to get back to my ship. My car was getting low on gas so I stopped and all I had was that $2 bill to get 2 bucks worth (price was much less per gallon back then. The attendant looked at the bill in awe and said "That's worth a lot." I replied, "Yep, two bucks. If you want it put two ones in the till and it's yours." I made it home.

I was stationed at Millington, TN while attending Navy schooling for training to be an electronics technician. Millington was near Memphis, TN. The shop owners had little respect for the Navy personnel. They were convinced that all Navy servicemen were second class citizens and often bitched to the base commander. The commander tried repeatedly to reason with the shop owners, pointing out to them that the sailor made major financial contributions to the economy of the area. The shop owners would have none of this logic so to prove his point, for one month, the commander had all personnel paid in $2 bills. Once the shop owners saw the flood of $2 bills, it became apparent to them that much of their livelihood was dependent on the sailor.

It is fun to hand a young grocery store cashier a half dollar, esp if they have a line of customers. Those who do not recognize it feel pressured enough to accept it and provide change. The managers have been old enough to recognize them.
But I can not get them to accept Mills.

$2 bills used to be gambling money according to my memory. I don't know whether it was really true since I didn't frequent the track or casinos when I was 10, but it was 'common knowledge' among the kids in school with me. I worked in my father's hardware store and we saw $2 bills occasionally. Maybe once a month or so. They were more frequent than $100 bills 'way back then.

I never saved them. I used them to buy things. Still do, when I come across them. The only bill I have saved is a $1 silver certificate. I suspect that after all these years it's worth $1.

One of the first things I did when I had enough from my second job in life (pumping gas)...I got a $1000 bill and kept it hidden in my wallet for real emergencies.

I've had a hard time finding a place to break a $100 bill.

While in HS, I worked for a bank on Wall Street and would occasionally go to the NY Federal Reserve. There I saw three $5,000 and two $10,000 bills. They were behind very thick glass. Could look but definitely couldn’t touch.
