Just some critters from a few trips.
The Man-o-war had just washed up on the beach and was still inflated. With the rough surf there were a number of others but they were deflated. Not sure how long this one lasted.
The bobcat really surprised me. This was a semi-urban park with a stream through in somewhere in the northeast Dallas area. The rest of the 30 or so people I was with missed the chance by all following the crowd. About three shots was all I got and he took off for the woods. Literally shot from the hip. Had to do a lot of adjusting.
The elk was another big surprise. I was driving and we were all looking left at some deer and getting ready to stop and shoot. I had my camera in my lap and turned to say something to my wife, saw the elk and hollered "Holy Shit" I shoved my camera to my wife as she was trying to climb into my drivers seat. I told her to start shooting. Didn't get the closest shot of about two feet but did get one good one at about ten feet. He became forever known by my call out name.
Last one's just a little dragonfly that let me get close. Hope you enjoy.

Second cruise 2003, I took this shot of a Portuguese Man-o-war on the beach in Galveston, TX. Shot with a Sony DSC-P92 point and shoot. I think it did a pretty good job.

Big surprise. While on a nature shoot with NANPA, around 30 people, they went one way, I went another. Took a shot at some fall leaves, turned around and this bobcat was about 15 feet away. Literally shot from the hip. I was afraid to move.

Early morning before a photo class at the Dallas Arboretum I heard someone yell snake. Naturally I went running over and got a shot of this snake (5 ft.) among the pumpkins. Scared the devil out of a few ladies.

RMNP elk poked his head down almost into the window. Named him Holy Shit because that's what my remark was when he did that. See more above.

In the John Bunker Sands wetlands near Dallas I got this little blue dragonfly when he wasn't paying attention. Got two shots and he took off.

pdsdville, Thanks for your post. The Portuguese Man-o-war is my favorite. You have to wonder how many people injury themselves because of a harmless snake.

Nice shots. The bobcat was especially serendipitous.

Like your write-up. Nice photos. When pickups still had bench seats, I was driving, my brother in the middle seen a black bear while heading to his place up in lower NY State. I think I still have some hearing loss in my right ear as he name the bear also!

Wonderful set. I love the variety. Your damselfly is a Blue-ringed Dancer (Argia sedula). Well done!

The snake really panicked a lot of people that morning. Just a harmless water snake but it was about four feet long.

Thanks for the correction. I'm not too much of an insect person.

Animals can really surprise you, and our reactions are usually hilarious.
