I just got tickets to a Stevie Nicks concert. In Hershey PA. Haven't gone to concert for many years. I know that in the past you could not take any photos period. But with everyone having a Smart phone, and you can now take pictures with them. Dose anyone know if you can use a Real Professional camera at a concert. Have looked for info on ticket site's and the venue site. All it says is no flash photography during the show. Dose anyone have any experience or advice on this subject. I appreciate any Help thanks.

If the venue's web site doesn't say you can't bring a pro camera, I would call them and make sure. It is unusual these days that they wouldn't prohibit them. Prohibiting phones is more difficult, but some artists are even prohibiting them.

Different venues will have different rules. It's usually defined by size, or the use of interchangeable lenses.

So my venerable old Brownie wouldn't qualify?

A professional camera. Means a DSLR or Mirror less camera with interchangeable lenses. Can be made By Nikon, Canon, Sony, any one made of the major Camera company's
Any purpose built separate device made solely for photography. No Smart Phone cameras, as good as they are. They can't match the features & options or lenses of a Pro caliber DSLR or Mirror- less camera.

I just went to the Steely Dan Eagles Long Farwell Concert. Only cell phones were allowed from what I saw and no flash or video. The only DSLR, was a professional photographer. Gary

Call the theater at Hershey PA. where the concert is to be held and ask management if professional equipment is allowed by an amateur photographer.
I would be very surprised if you would be allowed. Most if not all venues no longer allow it.
Here is what I found on line in less than 30 seconds.
Here's what not to bring to the Stevie Nicks concert
No iPads or "Go Pro" cameras, recording devices or accessories. No "selfie sticks" BSWA's clear bag policy forbids any tote larger than 12" x 6" x 12", and no clutch or wallet larger than 5.5 " x 8.5".

Cameras. Binoculars, or a phone or camera, can be carried into the venue so long as it is not in its own bag. Blankets. ( but this was at an outdoor venue)

Each fan may carry one clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag no larger than 12 by 12 by 6 inches or a clear plastic freezer bag no larger than one gallon. Clear bags may not have obscured interior pockets. Fans may also carry a clutch purse no larger than 6.5 inches by 4.5 inches. Bags and purses are subject to search

Again, personally I would call the venue in Hershey and ask them directly.

First, Enjoy the concert!
Second, don’t invest time and energy bringing a high end camera.
Third, you will be turned away and not allowed to enter with your camera. Why? the promoters and producers want exclusive control over any images and other merchandise.
Fourth, just enjoy the show!!

I had gone to a concert with my Canon EOS Rebel 2000. I mistakenly believed the security would allow it since it was a film camera. NOPE! I had to jump off the line, run back to my car, place my camera in the trunk and run back to wait on line again.

Using a cell phone camera with the flash shut off will give you dismal photos.

Please refer to Rule No. 1….
JUST ENJOY THE CONCERT

As you know, they quit letting you take pro gear to concerts years ago and don’t think anything has changed.
Issues of people selling prints not to mention their size.
But since you mention Stevie Nicks, in early 70’s I went to see Fleetwood Mac in DC. Was right up front with my Minolta SRT 101 and Vivitar zoom lens.

Working as a credentialed photographer @ various auto racing venues, everyone has pro gear, however, contact the venue staff & ask what is their definition of Pro Gear. I went to a pro hockey game with my Nikon D-500 & 70-200 lens a number of years ago, only to be told any camera body with a detachable lens is Pro & the staff/team photographer is the only one allowed inside with Pro Gear

Holey Minolta Moley! Memories..my first 'real' camera and lens exactly from the same time. Eric Clapton with Derek and the Dominos in Washington, DC., October 21, 1970.
Of course I don't have it.
Thanks for the smile this morning.

Not a cell?, not a pocket camera?, not a bridge camera?
Gotta look big & bulky to be a professional camera?
