The river (the Salt River) is where I go when life gets too messy. It's sometimes high and sometimes low, but it's always beautiful. I got to commune with some of the local residents.
This is commonly called "Red Mountain." It actually sits on the Salt Pima reservation, right along the Salt River. I have shot it from many angles, but I think this is my favorite.
Last year the river was in flood stage for many months. As a result, some of the trees have actually died, and some strange things got deposited.
This is one of the local residents. I never fail to see this guy, but sometimes he's pretty far away.
This is perhaps my favorite view of the river. That's Four Peaks in the distance that's actually located in the Mazatzal Mountains.
I found this guy at Coon Bluff. (That's not his blanket.)
I don't know what this guy is, but my R3 found him.
This is one of my favorite trees. I was afraid the flood had taken it, but it appears to be fine. It has stood on tiptoe for many, many years.
This is another local resident. The little grey is part of a herd of wild horses that live near the Salt. I never see him with the herd, but is usually alone or with his friend, a red dun. He's very friendly and will come quite close.
He looks like a black cardinal. This is the only place I've ever seen them. He's a phainopepla.

I was trying to shoot a cardinal and couldn't get focused on him. As I gave up, this squirrel was sitting off to the left, and seemed to be asking to be shot!
An engaging series Kathy, well done.
Wow, nice shots of a beautiful place

Great shots. Were they taken near Power Road?
What a great, fun series.
Excellent work, Kathy! You make that R3 look good.

Thank you. If it weren't so close, it would be a wild place.

Off Bush Highway. And that's an extension of Power (I think). I just drive the roads. I don't pay any attention to the names.
