Which is better for streaming TV... Roku or Amazon's Fire Stick?

A lot of fascinating and extensive, detailed information in this article. Here's a snip:

Roku's no-nonsense menu system places the apps front-and-center and lets you arrange them however you please, just like on your phone. It gets to the apps and shows quickly, without filling the screen with other junk.

Using a Fire TV device means wading through a bunch of TV shows and movies in addition to the apps. That would be fine if they were the TV shows and movies you're in the middle of watching, or might actually want to watch -- something Netflix's menus do well. But more often than not, it is hard to care about the TV shows and movies on Fire TV's screen. They just seem like stuff Amazon or its partners want us to watch.

It's kind of like the brand loyalty thing in photography. If you do not have a smart TV you are in uncharted waters and Maybe will choose ONE or the OTHER or maybe something else. You WILL get used to whatever nav. system the streaming device uses just as the hanged man on the gallows gets used to hanging in about a min. or two... THEN, you will defend your choice irregardless of how it performs... Its human nature... My disabled wife LIVES on her fire stick. Even she gets lost in the menu system sometimes. Change devices now, its NEVER going to happen !

I have both because one tv came with a Fire Stick built in. The Roku seems seamless to navigate, but the Fire Stick is a mess, having to dig through layers to find what program I want. I would never, ever get another Fire Stick.

I have Fire on 3 TVs and I find the UI annoying. I hope I outlive them so I can try something else. Besides, as annoyed as I am, I can navigate thru them quickly.

Unsurprisingly, as Apple users, we have an Apple TV 4K "set top box." No complaints. It's a HUGE upgrade to our ten year old Samsung Smart TV. I get my YouTube and my wife gets her Netflix, Prime, BritBox, and other services. Once you get used to the remote, it's great. Whatever signal processing they do is FAR better than the TV ever did. The picture just pops, with better color, contrast, and far more detail.

Well, I've only tried Roku, but I'd say it's absolutely satisfactory.

I have a 65" Sony XBR with Apple TV 4K. The result of this combination is stunning.
It leaves all of my old video guys speechless.
Do you remember when Apple went with Trinitron monitors? In a class by itself!

I had Sony's best 15" Trinitron TV back in 1981. I kept it until the cable company turned off analog TV. It was still working when I gave it away to a kid who had an analog game controller!
