Last year I had an increase in my state pension,very nice of the government,I have just received my tax free allowances for this year,my personal allowence has reduced because of last years lncrease ,I am now worse off by £4:00 a year,I can understand why some people don’t declare all their earnings,well done British Goverment.😩

Here in the colonies we pensioners get what we call Social Security. Once a. year we get a cost of living increase. We also have another wonderful government medical service called Medicare. Most of the increase in the cost of living increase is eaten up by the Medicare premium increase.. While not as bad as your situation similar.

"Most of the increase...is eaten up by Medicare premium increases" and the rest is eaten up by inflation. Too many humans = too much demand = rising prices. A tiny bit comforting to hear America isn't the only country with this problem.

Here in the States the government gives retirees a cost-of-living increase and then turns around and increases the amount we have to pay for medical coverage. It's like putting money in the right hand, and then taking it out of the left!

And the Social Security cost of living increase is based on an index that does NOT include fuel and food, the two things that increase the MOST with inflation.
