I have about 1000 slides I'd like to digitize.
Is there a smartphone app for that, which would offer decent quality and not be too expensive?
I'd rather not spend hundreds of $$ on a scanner.
Thanks

Shown here phones have the imaging power, so youll just need a tripod clip for the phone, and some sort of small home made light box.

I am not sure you have the patience.
If you have a macro lens or extensions tubes, just take a digital image of the slide.

How are you going to adapt that to a phone ?
If yo want to print the results, use a scanner or a DSLR setup so you can get a high resolution product.

If you have a macro lens, the a screw-in slide holder can work to digitize and then send to your smartphone
You could rent a scanner or uy one and put it on the used market when you’re done.

Youre reading things into the question. You think quality high rez prints are a goal ?
I can also read into the question as well. A Hawgster with 1000 amatuer slides on hand has nothing worthy of hiqh rez digitizing. Its all personal memories to make digital slide shows for family events. A phone is perfect.
The antitechnical nature of the opening post reinforces a reading that the images on the slides are not worthy of fancy photographic efforts. A phone will be waaaaay more than fully adequate.
A lens reversing ring would probably work on your big camera.

Obviously you missed a key word in my post - "If". The unsaid part is that if you don’t want prints with decent quality then yeh, use a smartphone.
I think the point is that the OP doesn't want to spend any money and he doesn't say if he owns a camera. He does say he has a smart phone. Now there must be some cropping involved but I don't know if the OP has the software to do it as I understand he wouldn't want to spend the money for software either.
