I am not sure if anyone remembers, I was getting ready to have a photo project displayed at out Brooksville Florida City Hall building. The curator was very helpful. he encouraged me to do this for the Brooksville community.
We hung the photos together plus the description of each merchant ands color photos of the stores. The portraits of the merchants her done in B&W 8 x10 framed with matts.
I also got a write up in our local Newspaper, The Hernando Sun. It was nice to be acknowledged.
I am looking forward to creating another photo exhibit.

Yes It did feel good. At 76 I finally found something to use my creative energy. I have three very successful adult children and we are close. That is a collective family love.
The next exhibit might be pets and their people. Not sure yet. What do you think?
I would love do children but people are very sensitive about that ( Not that I can blame them ).

Pets and people, possibly. I have no idea what subject(s) would be good for an exhibit...
Yea, children would probably be too sensitive.
Consider asking the curator for his thoughts.

One of the things I did when I was a long-time resident in a small town was to take photos of town events and places and give them to the local historical society. History is not just old stuff. The stuff from today will eventually be history. And historical societies like to have photos of old stuff. Eventually the stuff I gave them will be old stuff. In particular, photos of the current people who are active in the affairs of the town.

It's nice to have positive feedback isn't it? That's about as positive as it gets. Unless you are looking to make some money on you're photography!

Ellen Congratulations !!!
It SHOULD feel good. You took on a project, saw it through to completion, made some contacts at City Hall and friends in the community.
My advice is Don't Stop. You do not need sponsorship to do this kind of work, (although it makes it easier)
Take what you learned, and assign yourself another project, then see if you can sell the idea to the city again, and as you accumulate a body of work you might get a gallery interested.
Remember to keep accurate names and notes on everyone you photograph. You can build a website for display.
Have business cards printed so it is easy to ask people if you can photograph them.

Great Good Luck
PS My Wife is 78 and is out today shooting a wedding with my Daughter. They also do community service, like doing free family portraits of the local Down Syndrome group members. It is Very rewarding.

Good for you! And see, age has nothing to do with being productive or useful. In fact us old timers can show the young folks a thing or two.

And congratulations on successful children. I hope you consider success as more than their profession, wages, titles, etc. I judge the success of my kids by less tangible means such as being good parents and spouses, honesty, helping others and public service such as volunteering at homeless shelters and making Christmas gifts for nursing home residents. It’s ok for your children to know you have expectations of them as long as those expectations are reasonable like the ones above.
