Epson ET-2760 Working Again

I mentioned that my relatively new Epson ET-2760 displayed "Contact Epson Service" on its LCD screen after it made an awful grinding noise. I didn't want to do that. I didn't see any paper jams, so I put it aside. A couple of days ago, I began examining it closely, and I saw a bit of paper deep inside. I had to raise the entire top, exposing the ink tanks and interior to see the paper. It was thoroughly stuck, and I was afraid that it would rip to shreds when I pulled on it. Working slowly and carefully, I was able to remove the whole sheet with no tearing. It's printing once again. I wonder how much Epson would have charged me to "repair" the printer.

More than what the printer is worth.

Definitely. Of course, I would first have to locate a repair center and then drive there or ship the printer.

I went to estate sales Friday and saw they have a color laser printer which is in good condition for $50. I think I can get it for $25 but the toners are almost completely out. 2 of the colors are empty. So if I get it it would be expensive to get a set of toner cartridges.

It might be worth the cost of the toner.

The printers cost a bit more than $50.

It's the HP Laserjet Pro CP1525nw. HP wants $234 for a set of toners. Amazon sells third party set for $97.

That's a tough call. I'd take a chance on the generic toner, depending on reviews. If you can get the printer for $25, you might be able to sell it for twice that price at your own yard sale.

It does work, right?

I once bought something at a yard sale, and I had to have it repaired, although the seller said that it worked. I forget what it was, but it was worth having it repaired. I think it was an IBM Selectric typewriter, and the repair didn't cost much at all.

I wish you weren't so far from here.
I repaired Selectrics for 9 years and I could have got you going for free.
Of course, I no longer have my tools now.

Were you able to see the printer output? It could be a risky proposition if you buy cartridges, the printer doesn’t work well, you can’t return the cartridges, etc. Just a thought.

I’m now a believer in Epson Eco-Tank printers. I’ve had one for almost two years now. It’s worked flawlessly, has NEVER dropped the wireless internet connection, and I still have half of the original ink supply that the printer came with. It’s in constant use every day. The printer is just amazing. It also scans well and makes great photos. Before this printer I had an HP inkjet printer where I spent $170 every other month in ink cartridges, it constantly dropped the internet connection, replaced the print head three times, etc. It was a nightmare.

Jerry, I have an Epson 2760 and love it compared to the HP had before and gave away because I got tired of every 300 pages buying an ink cartridge. With the 2760 I can usually go 4000 plus pages before I have to add ink. I buy the ink package at Costco. A couple of things to prepare for - Sometimes paper jams and you have to remove the back plate under where the blank paper sits. It's not too bad. But also eventually the ink pad fills up and there are videos that show how to replace it but it's kind of messy so I paid $100 to a local Epson repair shop to replace it.

With your high car mechanics repair labor charges I can imagine how much a printer repair charge would be.
I have an HP enterprise laser printer which I bought cheap new (1/2 price) because I was a dealer then. It cost me $500 (NZD). A set of 4 toner cartridges (admittedly double capacity sizes) last cost me $1200. I did investigate buying a new printer but they only came with starter cartridges.

Have an Epson 4750, ordered 2 ink overflow tanks for it, printer gave a message one day that the tank needed to be changed. Glad I had spare tanks, it took less than 10 minutes to access the filled tank and replace with a new tank. Wasn’t messy at all, this is one of the best and most economical printers that I’ve owned. Did have problem with purple fringing when printing black and white, found that if you unplug the printer for 24 hours then plug it back in the purple went away, and the printing seems to have improved.

Did you have any trouble resetting the overflow counter?
