Here are some more shots from the Split Rock Jumping Tour held at Terra Nova Equestrian Center at Myakka City Florida.
What I am trying to accomplish in these images is to capture the power and grace of these magnificent horses and also the focus and connection between horse and rider. Let me know if I am getting this across to you.

Enjoy!

Another fine set of images. It's interesting that you captured, while horse and rider are connected to complete the course, in several pictures, the rider and the horse are looking in different directions. The horse is looking ahead to complete the jump while the rider is looking ahead to plan the entrance to the next jump. The horse will ultimately follow the direction the rider is looking by feeling their change in the position upon landing.

I noticed that also Reuss. Just shows the great communication between horse and rider! There has to be a special connection there.
Appreciate you taking the time to view and comment.

I've ridden horses for 30 years after my wife introduced me to them. She used to ride in hunter/jumper events. And there is a special bond between horse and rider. It involves learning to trust one another. Your horse learns to trust your judgement in what you are asking them to do and you learn to trust their judgement that they won't do anything stupid that will get you hurt. It grows stronger the longer you ride. A horse is the only animal that you literally trust you life to when you climb in the saddle. That relationship broke down for Christopher Reeves in a jumping competition.

I've also taken literally thousands of pictures at horse events, usually competitive trail rides or carriage-driving competitions.

You have a lot of knowledge concerning these events Reuss, I am a rookie, only my 2nd event photographing them. Still having a hard time locking in focus on faces. In that very short time I have become to appreciate the bond between horse and rider. My wife grew up in Kentucky horse country, she used to play on the Claiborne Horse Farm grounds with friends and has a photo of her and her daughter with Secretariat! Her great-great grandfather won the 2nd and 4th Kentucky Derby. She will not come to these events because she has witnessed the ugly side of horse racing.
Please keep watching for my posts and please chime in with any tips or critique.

Thanks,

Don
