Having been having trouble locking focus, using single point focus. These were shot at 1/1250 sec at f5.6 and ISO 200.
Equipment is Nikon D7200 and 18-200mm 3.5-5.6 GII ED.
Any tips would be appreciated Jules.

auto/contiguous single point or maybe 9 point.. I would try next shoot at 1/1600 your iso will still be fine even at 400 or so. Do you use back button focus. That would help to on moving objects.

If you look at this pic. the yellow is sharper than the horse and rider. Maybe use group focus and up the shutter to 1/1600 to 1/2000 the iso will still be fine. Give it a try, nothing to lose right? Practice on moving cars in your neighborhood before the next horsey event.
Also a possible answer if to calibrate your lens to camera. I don't see from this pic it's focusing front or back, the overall shot is soft.
If I have a problem or I am not sure I go out front of the house and take pics. of cars, flowers, anything to see what the problem is.
